Best Break Up Dance Songs of 2008A Playlist of Tracks to Help Dance Away a Broken Heart
Breaking up is never easy to do - all the tears, drama, hurt, the gin and tonics... Stop crying at the discotheque and download the best break-up dance songs of 2008.
Sappy love songs – who needs them? There’s no better way mend a broken heart then shaking your stuff on the dancefloor. Luckily, 2008 was a great year to break up, if only to download this break-up dance playlist.
“What hurts the most / is being so close / and having so much to say / and watching you walk away / never knowing what could have been.” Whether dumped over the phone, via a text message, or at the airport watching a lover catch the first flight to Europe – it’s hard not to wonder what could have been. This track asks the questions we all ask ourselves after a split – but does so with a Euro-cheese beat that can’t help but pick up spirits while waiting for the next round at the bar.
Long distances relations can work – but apparently not for the Material Girl. Her man may have loved her more when she was 6000 miles away, but at least she scored a home run… with this track.
Like Madonna’s “Sorry”, this is the ‘heard it all before’ scenario, except that Lauper makes her rejection much more explicit and raw. Great song to play while preparing for a night out dancing, once your throat hurts from belting “Without You” at the top of your lungs in front of a mirror.
“You’ll never see me again / so now’s who’s gonna cry for you?” lead singer of this Swedish one hit wonder chirped over an electronic wall of sound. Full of self empowerment and a dance pop beat that feet can’t find indifferent. Perfect for screaming at the top of your lungs on the middle of the floor, surrounded by hundreds of hot sweaty bodies that’ll happily help pick up the pieces.
The queen of bad break–ups screeched back into town this year after yet another heart trampling. Lucky for danceland, she teamed up with Guy Sigsworth who added some heavy beats to her chilling sentiments. “Such a difference between / Who I am and who you see,” she sings. “Conclusions you come to of me / Routinely incorrect / I don't know who you're talking to / With such f*****g disrespect”. Take that Ryan. One day Alanis will learn to say what she really means.
“Now you’re gone/ I realise my love for you was strong …I keep waiting here by the phone/ with your pictures hanging on the wall.” Who doesn’t wish their lover sat alone and miserable after a bust? Great euro-disco beat to boot.
There’s more than one way to tell a guy that things are over. But, Ouch! Pink makes it clear that she’s in no mood to put out on this hard hitting track that revitalized her career. Enormous club play kept this baby alive for the last 12 months and given its anthem-like chorus, should be a kiss off track favoured by many for years to come. The dance version of this track makes us all wish we had the disco balls Pink has. Next time, don’t let that ‘Dear John’ letter ruin an evening. Skip the sappy love songs and crank this break-up playlist - dance that broken heart away.
