Hot New Dance Techno Music March 2009Tunes from Little Boots, Prodigy, Ladytron, Freeland & Depeche Mode
The 80's and 90's dance music revival continues in March 2009 with killer tunes from Ladytron, Freeland and The Prodigy.
Depeche Mode began their career in the 80’s and Little Boots sounds like she could have slipped easily between the Eurythmics and Stacey Q. Meanwhile 90’s techno dance veterans The Prodigy are back on top with a new single and a number one album in the UK. Little Boots - Arecibo EP & Little Boots EP Like Lady GaGa and La Roux, UK independent sensation Little Boots continues the 80’s dance music revival. Both EPs contain electronica that blurs between great dance and radio-friendly tunes. With her powerful vocals and thought-provoking lyrics, Little Boots has been named by many publications, including the BBC, as a talent tipped for tremendous success in 2009. Little Boots plans to release her first full length album later this year. In the meantime she has two EPs available that show off her versatility, from the synth-heavy techno grind of "Stuck on Repeat", the curiousness of "Meddle", the dark Ladytron-like calculated trance of "Mathematics" to the burning remake of Freddie Mercury’s "Love Kills", these EPs contain more top notch music than some artist's greatest hits. Track listing for the EP’s differ depending on the region. The Prodigy - OmenDelivering a hard hitting techno track along the lines of their 90's heyday hits was risky, but this track drips in sweat and has given them their first top ten record in a long time. This creepy electronic pudding sounds like a classic horror flick spun up and spit out by a possessed soul. Light on lyrics, except for the screaming message, "The writing’s on the wall", this track, complete with clanging chimes that send chills up the spine, would sound perfect at a Halloween rave. Found on Invaders Must Die Ladytron - TomorrowMore atmospheric dance techno from one of the UK's most underappreciated bands. This stand out track from their year-old record, swamped in layered electronics and a vocal that sounds warmer than their usual frosty approach, “Tomorrow” could be the band’s closest flirt with pop yet. Found on Velocifero. Freeland - Under Control (Alex Metric Remix)Cloning the Chemical Brothers on this remix, UK producer/DJ Freeland misleads with the title of this track. There’s nothing under control about this urgent, pulsing techno track - a fine example of hard etectronica showcasing male vocals - a trend not seen in a while. Available now as a free download. Depeche Mode - WrongReturning to a darker sound on this self-examining single, Depeche Mode proves that even after 30 years of making electronic music that transcends boundaries, they still deliver top notch tunes. Not easily accessible, this track takes time to grow but after a few spins it seeps under the skin and grabs on like the bite of a piranha. Found on Sounds of the Universe. March 2009 delivers some of the best new dance techno music in a long time. Each of these tracks from Little Boots, Depeche Mode, Freeland, Ladytron and The Prodigy give 80’s dance music fans and those living the revival, plenty to get their feet moving.
