Janet Jackson to Release Number OnesFrom Control to Discipline Ms. Nasty Collects 33 Greatest Hits
On November 17, global superstar Janet Jackson releases Number Ones - a career spanning new Greatest Hits Package on two CDs featuring new song Make Me.
Just in time for Christmas, one of the best selling artists in contemporary dance music with well over 100 million records sold, Janet Jackson unveils a new greatest hits collection. Under a new deal between Universal Music Enterprises and EMI Music, all of Jackson’s best known tracks, plus a new single “Make Me”, will be available for the first time ever on one collection. Number Ones ( re-named Janet Jackson: The Best in markets outside North America) groups all of Jackson’s monster hits beginning with the dance smashes "Nasty" and "What Have You Done For Me Lately" from her career making album Control plus rare singles and her newest releases up to 2008’s Discipline. Janet Jackson Control and Rhythm Nation 1814In her more than twenty years of crafting dancefloor ready singles, Janet Jackson went from the Jackson’s little sister to a musical force to be reckoned with. Her breakout album, 1986’s Control shattered expectations selling over 14 million copies worldwide only to be matched three years later with follow-up album Rhythm Nation 1814. Just those two albums alone generated 13 hit singles – “What Have You Done For Me Lately”, “Nasty”, “When I Think Of You”, “Control”, “Let’s Wait Awhile” and “The Pleasure Principle” from Control, and “Miss You Much”, “Rhythm Nation”, “Escapade”, “Alright”, “Love Will Never Do (Without You)”, “Come Back To Me” and “Black Cat” from Rhythm Nation 1814. With seven top 5 singles from Rhythm Nation 1814, Janet Jackson became the first artist in history to achieve such a feat, and that record has yet to be broken. Janet Jackson The Velvet Rope, All For You, Damita Jo, 20 Y.O and DisciplineHer third number one album in a row, Janet, sold another 20 million copies worldwide while follow up album The Velvet Rope sold half that. All For You, her first album of the new millennium shot straight to number one making it her fifth consecutive number one album. While subsequent albums, Damita Jo, 20 Y.O and Discipline failed to perform as well as her previous records, Janet Jackson continues to reinvent herself and her sound by incorporating harder Urban beats and rhythms to her mix of R&B and dance music. Along with her album hits, Number Ones also includes stand alone singles and songs recorded for soundtracks including “Diamonds” with Herb Alpert, “The Best Things In Life Are Free” with Luther Vandross, “Scream” with Michael Jackson and “What’s It Gonna Be” with Busta Rhymes. Over the course of her impressive career, Janet Jackson has scored number one singles on all the charts except country and has racked up an impressive number of trophies including 5 Grammy Awards as well as MTV Awards and Billboard Music Awards.
