Star-studded releases drop like leaves this fall with new CDs from Mika, Robbie Williams, trip hop veterans Massive Attack, Tiësto, Michael Jackson and Madonna.

In the months leading to Christmas, record companies are rushing to release their most anticipated product of the year.

In September, Madonna closes her third decade as the pop diva all others aspire to with the release of a career-spanning greatest hits collection while UK pop sensation Mika drops the follow up to 2007’s Life In Cartoon Motion, his hugely popular dance/pop/drama debut

In October, Massive Attack release their first new material since 2003’s 100th Window, the first of the Michael Jackson cash-ins appears, and in November Robbie Williams returns with Reality Killed The Video Star.

New Albums from Madonna, Mika and Massive Attack

  • Madonna – Celebration

Celebration, Madonna’s third greatest hits package, culls tracks from the 80’s, 90’s and 00’s, as well as two new tracks, “Revolver” and the Paul Oakenfold-produced title cut.

Available in three different incarnations – a single disc retrospective, a two-disc deluxe package that includes 36 hits plus a bonus remix, and a premium edition featuring a bonus new track and a DVD collecting 30 MTV- career making videos, Madonna fans have a lot to celebrate.

  • Mika - The Boy Who Knew Too Much

Following the tremendous worldwide success of his debut album, Life in Cartoon Motion in 2007 and this summer’s Songs for Sorrow EP, Mika releases his second full length album The Boy Who Knew Too Much.

Produced by Grammy winner Greg Wells, with whom Mika worked on his debut, The Boy Who Knew Too Much has been described as Life in Cartoon Motion part II. But whereas his debut focused much on childhood, the second album follows Mika into adolescence.

  • Massive Attack EP

The ever-evolving UK trip-hop/electronica outfit return in February 2010 with their fifth studio album. In the meantime they drop an EP of four new tracks in October. Gathering an impressive guest list, lead single “Splitting The Atom” features Robert Del Naja, Grant Marshall and Horace Andy, while “Psyche” reunites with Martina Topley-Bird.

New Dance Techno Music from Robbie Williams and Tiësto

  • Robbie Williams - Reality Killed The Video Star

“I want people to feel elated, I want them to dance,” Robbie Williams says in an 6 August EMI Canada press release detailing his new album due in November. Lead by “Bodies”, Robbie returns to the dancefloor with his first album since 2006’s Rudebox.

Produced by the legendary Trevor Horn, the twelve new tracks were written by Robbie in collaboration with Danny Spencer & Kelvin Andrews, Brandon Christy, Craig Russo, Richard Spencer and Scott Rudin, Chaz Jankel, Guy Chambers and Fil Eisler.

  • Tiësto - Kaleidoscope

Trance pistol Tiësto joins the growing list of DJ-turn-pop stars with his latest album - more alternative rock/pop than trance, due in October.

The Dutch DJ planned a huge party and many of his closest friends showed up to lend their vocals including Bloc Party's Kele Okereke, Sigur Rós' Jónsi Birgisson, and a trio of Canadian acts Metric's Emily Haines, Nelly Furtado and Tegan and Sara.

More New Dance Techno and Electronica Albums in Fall 2009

Other noteworthy new dance albums slated for release this fall include Canada's Dragonette with “Fixin' To Thrill, UK sensation La Roux with their self-titled US release, and the ‘soundtrack’ to Michael Jackson’s ill-fated concert-come-film This Is It, featuring another collection of hits plus two versions of the lead single title track, to be released in October.
