New Dance Techno Songs August 2009Summer Music from Madonna, David Guetta, Shikira & Jordin Sparks
The dog days of summer have arrived and with them a brand new batch of dance records that'll raise the temperature even higher. Here's August 2009's Dance Playlist.
Summer 2009’s Eighties Revival continues in August. Madonna, the queen of dance since the early 80’s, releases a brand new track, Discovery cover a recently fallen 80’s icon, while American Idol Jordin Sparks ignites life into an old 80’s track in this month’s new dance techno song playlist. Madonna - CelebrationMadge couldn’t have picked a better word to title this track and her third greatest hits collection. She’s got a lot to celebrate – not only has she remained a pop icon for over 25 years, long leaving her contemporaries in the bargain bin, she has managed to remain fresh and relevant. Like many of her best tunes “Vogue”, “Express Yourself” and “Holiday”, Madonna sounds best when she sings anthems. “Celebration”, a collaboration with Paul Oakenfold and one of two new tracks from her upcoming greatest hits, gives fans a much deserved reason to party – not only is it a classic-sounding track updated for today’s tastes, it’s one of her Madge-sty’s strongest singles in a very long time. Found on Celebration Owl City – Fireflies Sounding like a dead-ringer for the Postal Service, Owl City's Adam Young attempted to cure his insomnia by holing up in his parent’s basement at night crafting tunes on his laptop. The first result of his experiment to break the big-time, “Fireflies”, weaves a tale of love for the little buggers with the dim night lights. “I get a thousand hugs from 10,000 lightning bugs,” isn’t a typical pop tune love declaration but this slice of electronica sounds as summery fresh as the breeze in August. One of the cutest, if not strangest, pop/dance/electronica fusions this summer. Found on Ocean Eyes Jordin Sparks – S.O.S (Let the Music Play)Taking a cue from Rihanna (along with a song title) American Idol’s teen queen liberally borrows from Shannon’s 1983 dance hit “Let the Music Play” and hits the floor for a dance off with some chick set on swiping her man – or whatever. Slick production intertwines the original track with new lyrics making this more of a mash-up than a new song sampling an old song. Sparks sounds like she’s having fun with her newfound 80’s groove (album title track, “Battlefield” shamelessly echoes Pat Benetar’s “Love is a Battlefield”) and with a beat this good, there’ll be more than one air-singer chanting along with the track at the local club. Found on Battlefield Shakira – She WolfDraw the shades and grab the garlic, Shakira is back and she’s out for the kill on her beast of a new track “She Wolf”. Skirting the 80’s in favor of a more 70’s disco groove complete with strings and deep boogie-influence, the Colombian lycanthrope pants, chants and yes, even howls at the moon in this kooky electro-dance concoction. A lesser singer with a weaker personality wouldn’t have been able to pull this off, Shakira, however, with her throaty vocals, thick sexy accent and unique poetic sensibility turns this self-penned track into a twilight monster. Found on She Wolf-Single Discovery – I Want You BackVampire Weekend keyboardist, Rostam Batmanglij, and Ra Ra Riot singer Wes Miles, took a year off from their indie day jobs to play with keyboards and experiment with electronica. Ironically their debut album includes a timely cover of the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” recorded before Michael’s recent passing. Auto-tuned to death, the solid record remains faithful to the original as much as a track that sounds like it was recorded in another dimension could. Found on LP. More New Techno Songs August 2009Other hot new dance techno songs to consider this month include Quintino – “Heaven” (feat. Mitch Crown), Tiësto & Sneaky Sound System – “I Will Be Here”, David Guetta – “Sexy Bitch” (feat. Akon) and Vitalic – “Your Disco Song”. Shadows may grow longer and evenings cooler this month, but things still sound hot with August 2009’s new dance techno song playlist.
