New Dance Techno Songs June 2009Tracks from Dizzee Rascal,Lady Gaga, David Guetta & Kelly Rowland
Summer 2009 has finally arrived and with it a picnic basket full of scorching new dance/techno songs for the beach, the club or the patio party.
Load up on these new tunes from Royksopp, Sean Kingston, Depeche Mode and The Pet Shop Boys and let the heat take over. Here’s June 2009’s New Dance Techno song Playlist
UK Grime rapper, Dizzee Rascal, scores his second UK number one, following last summer’s smash “Dance Wiv Me”, with this techno-charged jam. Recruiting Armand Van Helden, “Bonkers” features a gritty NYC underground grind propping up a typically whimsical rap from Rascal. This tune is crazy and quickly takes the crown as one of the best techno tracks in summer 2009. Found on Bonkers-Single.
Second single from their new album features vocals by Swedish pop/dance singer Robyn. While remixes by Kris Menace, Chateau Marmont and Spencer & Hill take different directions, the original version is already hotter than the freeway at high noon. Robyn’s crystal clear vocals rip over dense, hard synths and a killer beat by a funkier Royksopp. By far the best song either has released to date. Found on Junior.
Now recovering from emergency surgery, David Gahan and Martin Gore’s duet couldn’t be more poignant. Gore’s lyrics, the affirmation of a light at the end of the tunnel, burn bright over thick layers of analog synths that bounce along to an 80’s vibe the band had all but abandoned since “Just Can’t Get Enough”. Found on Sounds of the Universe.
The Pet Shop Boys continue their ode to love on this track about realising love has struck when least expected. Pop enthusiasts will enjoy its breezy, summery radio-feel while club rats won’t resist its danceable beat and late 80’s feel. Found on Yes.
“Let’s have some fun this beat is sick, I wanna take a ride on your disco stick,” a highly synthesized Gaga sings in the opening to her new track, and possible third consecutive number one. Following closely in the footsteps of “Just Dance” and “Pokerface”, “Lovegame” has just enough pop leanings to get radio attention, while its bouncy beat and sing-along chorus please summer dancers at clubland. Found on The Fame.
Little Boots gets off in the city and offers a guided tour. With electronic twittering similar to Goldfrapp circa Supernature, “New In Town”aims to shoot Little Boots to the same status as fellow synth chick Lady Gaga. While “New In Town” may not be the tune to catapult her into international star status as “Just Dance” did for Gaga, it shows a different, more pop side to Little Boots than anything she has released up to now. Found on Illuminations EP.
“That little shorty’s fire burning on the dancefloor,” Kingston sings on this call to clubland. While not the smartest song lyrically, it’s a volcano of easily digestible pop that’s sure to become a radio staple. Possibly the house-on-fire summer song of 2009 - somebody call 911. Found on Fire Burning – Single.
Ethereal instrumentation and minimalist vocals by Julian Hamilton begin this tale of hurt and betrayal that swells to a pulsing floor-filler. While the track gets buried amongst the harder beats found on the album, segregated, it’s the best showcase to introduce this band to the unfamiliar. “Clever liar, foolin' us all, Never thought I'd work it out, How could I have known it was ever about you boy?” Hamilton questions with doses of electronica that enhance the difficult subject of this heartbreaking track. Found on Apocalypso.
Starting with a piano flow similar to Coldplay’s “Clocks”, Kelly Rowland falls in love with dance beats on her new venture into clubland. As guest vocalist on this poppy David Guetta collaboration, the two show what happens when an in-demand producer and DJ gets the right girl for the job. This track highlights the talents of both, offering one of the more sensual club tunes of summer 2009. Its pop tendencies give hope it could cross over and also become one of the biggest pop singles of the year. Found on One Love.
Taking German synthpop wizard Peter Shillings’ haunting One Hit Wonder from 1983, Shiny Toy Guns update it for summer 2009. Featuring female vocals and updated synths minus the bass, Shiny Toy Guns’ version loses some of the depth of the 80’s original in favour of a more club-ready track. Though inferior, when the countdown starts….4-3-2-1, it’s hard not to gravitate to the dancefloor. Found on Major Tom – Single. Whether this is the summer for love games or one when love takes over, this dance/techno song playlist’s sure to soundtrack June 2009.
