New Dance Techno Songs May 2009Music from Moby, Calvin Harris, Flo Rida & Black Eyed Peas
New Dance/ Techno playlist for May 2009 including the return of the Pet Shop Boys and Prince alongside newcomers La Roux and Calvin Harris.
Spring has sprung and with the warmer weather comes a new batch of dance songs to heat up the airwaves, playlists and dancefloors all over the nation. Here’s ten hot new tracks to download now.
Now a reformed Jehovah’s Witness, Prince goes easy on the dirty talk with this sleek dance track from his Lotusflow3r collection. But while the song’s not as raunchy as “Erotic City” or any of his 80’s hits, when Prince sings about the girls wanting his box of chocolates everyday, it’s clear he’s not singing about a bite of his Toblerone. Found on MPLSound.
The Peas bounce back after a four year hiatus and head straight to the dancefloor all the while rocketing to the top of the pop charts with this track about absolutely nothing. Quickly becoming the “Seinfeld” of popular music, Black Eyed Peas infuse this track with meaningless lyrics such as “I’m so 3008, you’re so 2000 and late”, surrounded by bucket loads of bleeps and bops. Midway through a wave of synths swirl in and suddenly the track becomes a Euro dance floor stomper. “Boom Boom Pow” easily classifies as one of the most meaningless tracks in a while, but also one of the catchiest. Found on Boom Boom Pow – Single.
Bad spelling aside, this newly remixed track makes a great song to play while getting ready for the club. Breathing new life into the cut from their debut album dubbed “Cross”, Justice add new drums and a better beat to this 2 year old track. Once this firecracker gets hot, it burns bright. “Tthhee Ppaarrttyy” is a grower that deserves several spins. Found on Tthhee Ppaarrttyy – Single.
Like Justice, Toronto techno wizards Mstrkrft drew deep inspiration from Daft Punk. Moving past their strongest influence to incorporate hip-hop tendencies, lead single from Mstrkrft’s second full length LP bares a grittier sound than anything on their first album. Driving synths soak the whole in a bath of electronica, making this one of the best dance/hip-hop fusions in a long time. Found on Fist of God.
“You don’t have to be beautiful, but it helps,” Pet Shop Boys’ Neil Tennant coos on new single from their 10th studio album Yes. Along with the wit, this track is a healthy slice of house/pop that fits nicely into one of the better stocked back catalogues of disco dance. Found on Yes.
Starting off slow, it sounds nothing like Harris’ past hits “The Girls” and “Acceptable in the 80’s”. Then a wall of sizzling synths take over, skipping the 80’s in favor of 90’s trance/ euro dance sound. Already a number one hit in the UK, this track has summer floor stomper written all over it. Found on I’m Not Alone – Single.
La Roux follow up their infectious first single “Quicksand” with this similar sounding dance/pop fusion. Holding a firm place on the current UK singles charts, La Roux show promise of becoming the new Eurythmics. Fans of Little Boots and Lady Gaga have much to munch on with “In For The Kill” – Hairspray and gel not included. Found on Quicksand EP.
Just like “Boom Boom Pow”, this track is filled with silly lyrics backed by a phoned-in Nelly Furtado guest vocal. Its killer beat swings back to the 80’s for inspiration and catapults feet to the floor. Unreleased as a single, this album track rivals even his number one “Right Round” as the most floor-worthy song on his album. “Jump” deserves to be a massive summertime hit. Found on R.O.O.T.S.
Dripping in warm synths that glide along like a summer storm, “I Remember” brings back trance that is as enjoyable to listen to in the livingroom as it is in the club. Kaskade may not have much to say on this track but her vocals are as sharp as knives. A brilliant spring time record. Found on Random Album Title.
Moby’s back with this instrumental that’s perfect for chilling after a night of clubbing. Filled with strange sounds and a jigsaw riff, “Shot in the Back of the Head” brings the class back to Lounge. Found on Wait For Me. With a playlist this hot, the chill of winter seems like a distant memory. All songs can be downloaded from iTunes or Amazon.com.
