New Dance Techno Songs November 2009Music from Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Mika, Britney Spears, Robbie Williams
The weather outside's frightful, making these hot club tunes more delightful. Here's November 2009's new dance/techno music playlist.
Most big name artists reserve November to drop their latest opus. The month before Christmas also makes the perfect time to re-release an album with bonus material or a compilation or greatest hits, with, of course, the obligatory new song for good measure. This year, November heats up with sizzling new music from Britney and Janet, Rihanna and Lady Gaga, while the boys sing about “Rain”, “Bodies” and “Dirtee Cash” New Dance Techno Songs from Britney Spears and Janet JacksonFalling into the ‘greatest hits’ category this year, both Britney Spears and Janet Jackson release new compilations, with new track in tow. “3”, the new song off Britney Spears Singles Collection due end of November, her second greatest hits in her entire ten-year career, topped the charts in October. In self-fulfilling prophecy “3” was Spear’s third number one hit in America – though she isn’t singing about counting hits - more like Peter, Paul and Mary getting down and dirty. Over a raunchy beat, courtesy of Max Martin and Shellback, Britney sings of the joys of simultaneous multiple lovers. Fully back in sex kitten mode after her stint in rehab and crazy town, Britney brings her mix of confidence and coyness to higher levels on this ménage a trois. Janet’s new single also deals with sex, a subject she has obsessed to the point of overkill on her past five albums. The title “Make Me” is self-explanatory but what makes this single so great is the late 70’s disco vibe reminiscent of her older brother’s swinging Off The Wall singles. It’s not exactly setting the charts on fire, but “Make Me” is Janet’s most accessible, comprehensible single in a very long time. The new track features on her new two-disc compilation Number Ones – her second greatest hits package, due in November. New Dance Techno from Robbie Williams, Mika and Dizzee RascalAnother popular face returning to the club this November, Robbie Williams delivers “Bodies” his first new track since 2006’s Rudebox was declared DOA. While that album contained a fine selection of dance-orientated tunes, it failed to achieve the success of his late 90’s mega stardom. Luckily Williams kept on his dancing shoes and delivers a track so original it’s difficult to peg. Beginning with faux Gregorian chants before a buzzing synth line rips the track to shreds, Robbie focuses on body images and God. Williams hasn’t released a track this addictive in a long time. In September, Dizzee Rascal released “Holiday” a number one collaboration with Calvin Harris. But with the release of his latest record, Tongue & Cheek, album track “Dirtee Cash" has been getting most of the attention. When the album came out, it shot into the UK top ten before “Holiday” checked out. Now officially the king of getting-ready-to-party songs, “Dirtee Cash” finds Dizzee Rascal rapping over an overt sample of The Adventures of Stevie V’s "Dirty Cash (Money Talks)," which clocked in at number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1990. Like math, Dizzee’s songs are formulaic, but fantastic. Take one killer beat, add one ridiculous rap and stir. Voila, “Dirtee Cash”. In November Mika culls single number two, “Rain”, from his new LP The Boy Who Knew Too Much and returns to the dancefloor with a thunderstorm of a track. Leaving the high school theatrics of “We Are Golden” behind, Mika straps on his disco shoes and controls the floor with his best dance song since “Love Today”. Bringing Stuart Price (Madonna, Seal) on board to supply the thumping background, Mika practices his lower tenors, sounding strangely like Robbie Williams until the chorus pours in and it’s all Mika doing what he does best. Not at all representative of his album, as a single “Rain” hits the dancefloor like a torrential downpour. New Dance Techno from Rihanna and Lady GagaAlong with Robbie Williams and Mika, Rihanna makes a dramatic return and a twist in her musical style, on her new darker single "Russian Roulette". The track was penned by Ne-Yo who also collaborated with the Barbadian starlet on 2007's Good Girl Gone Bad. In a risky move, Rihanna sings about being "terrified but I’m not leaving", echoing recent real life events. Her new album, Rated R, comes out towards the end of the month. “Russian Roulette” is her first new material since the singles "Take a Bow" and "Disturbia" from the expanded re-release of her third album hit the top of the charts. Like Rihanna did with Good Girl Gone Bad, Lady Gaga re-releases her The Fame in November in an expanded form coupled with a set of eight new tracks. The first single off The Fame Monster, "Bad Romance" finds Gaga less inclined to chant the fineness of the highlife but rather the underbelly of the rich and famous. With a chomping beat, a hook that won’t let go and suicide lyrics, Lady Gaga looks to write a bad romance– “I’m a free bitch baby” - and a new number one hit. Gaga, ooh la la. November 2009’s New Dance/Techno Music Playlist
November’s the last month of the year when it comes to great single releases, luckily this month’s new dance playlist pounds out top quality tracks that’ll keep the dancefloors hot ‘til 2010.
